Tagged and Bagged:

So, this month, I’ve started work an hour earlier than before.  Its certainly nice to get home earlier.  That 7:30pm arrival was the pits (I’ll probably be doing them again, though).  So, now, I get home 6:30-6:45, if I don’t have to go elsewhere first.  That part is nice, as I can actually enjoy some “awake” time with the kids, instead of the cranky “before bed” time.  Its not the end of the shift that’s really getting to me (although the other shift is closing time, so there was no question as to when it ended).  Its the start time.  Before, I’d have lots of time after getting the kids off to school to shower and fart around with any dishes left over fromt he previous night.  I could prepare a brunch and generally mosey my ass out the door and be at work in plenty of time (because I’d had to get up with the kids – summer’s different).  Now, I have about 20 minutes between getting the kids off to school and getting me out the door to work.  I’ve got the back a lot of the other stuff up now.

Why does one hour make so much difference?

I’ve actually got used to my grave yard shift. I get up whenever and don’t have to rush. But it seems I’m rushing that last hour before work. LOL

But I don’t have kids to get to school either though.

I’m with mac, I wish I had the excuse of kids for always running late. My new year’s resolution was to leave the house 30 minutes before work starts, even if it only takes 15-20 minutes to get there, because otherwise, I was always stressing out, and wind up being 1-5 minutes late, which is not a good thing to be when you’re hoping they’re gonna hire you permanently. I broke the resolution by January 3rd :(

LOL. I make daily resolutions only (with the one exception of contributing more to Linux Questions dot org more often this year, as I’ve been lax there. LOL). They’re kind of like, “Today, I resolve to get to the end of my shift without telling one of those idiots off!” :D

I spent 4 years working a 4 on/4 off, 12-hour shift and my wife worked when I was off, and the kids were in school when I was off. So, 4 out of 7 days we were lucky to see each other for an hour a day.

    I feel your pain.

To be truthful, I’d take an overnight shift if I knew that I’d be able to sleep in the morning, but there’s no separate room that I could lock myself into here for that. I’d be disturbed in the morning, for sure. But, it would provide for the maximum time with the kids.
