I see that the whole world but me has wrote (not muc) about WordPress 2.3.  I haven’t.  I have been running it since the beginning, as soon as the 2.2 code was declared stable (really, before that).  Perhaps I’ll write about it.  You’ll notice that my site is reasonably responsive and that’s because of the new version of WP.

I’ve also installed Debian 4.0 on my machine.  I’ll likely review it soon.

I also have a few movies that I should review.  Maybe I’ll get to that after all.

Who knows.

Looking forward to your Debian review.

By the way, how do you “update” a theme to work with all the features of WP 2.3?

I found a definite increase in responsiveness when I upgraded to 2.2.3 from 2.0.1* (whatever 2.0 I was running). Granted I also did a MySQL upgrade when I upgraded WP, so I don’t know really which to blame for the better load speed.

I’ve been impressed so far with what I’ve accomplished with “Etch”. I’ve enabled a couple of extra repositories (not approved by the distro, I’m sure) to get moblock and the DVD library. I’ve never quite figured out how that whole pile of doo doo about legality on that library/codec could stand up, as the cost of any decoding, etc is covered with your purchase of the DVD drive and the crappy Windows software that’s included. If you don’t use Windows, then you’ve paid for a licence that you can never use, so it shoudl be transferrable to the superior OS’s software, IMO. Mwahahaha!!!

As far as updating a theme, if you’ve got it working with the 2.1 branch, you’ve done most of it. The only newer stuff that I’ve seen that would require a tweak or two would be related to the tags. I’m sure that the tags and options are a bit different than with Ultimate Tag Warrior, which I had been using, so I’ll have to research that. Even if you wanted to retain categories and never display tags at all, its still valid to add them, as the search engines will treat you well (if you want to be found, that is…).

Hah! we were typing this at the same time! And, on that, I’ve noticed that this blog is on Texas time. I’ll have to fix that! (nothing wrong with Texas, but I don’t live in that time zone!)

I’ve implemented “tagging” into my theme. Take a look.
I call a tag cloud a “keyword map”.
